David Banner, played by Bill Bixby, is a physician and scientist at the Culver Institute in California. He’s undergoing an immense emotional trauma as a result of a car crash that took his wife, Laura, away from him. The experience frightens and makes him feel guilty and lonely, and encourages him to explore a bizarre phenomenon he’s witnessed – people getting insanely strong when stressed.
Investigating the Hulk
Banner and his research partner, Dr Elaina Marks, investigate these rare instances of superhuman power. He thinks something called gamma radiation could be involved in these changes. To learn more, he runs an experimental experiment and exposes himself to gamma rays, without supervision. Apparently, the machines he’s used on, have been set up wrong, and rather than being exposed innocuously, he is given a lethal dose of radiation.
At first glance, Banner assumes his experiment failed because no one explains what’s going on. But then things go haywire when he gets really angry. Then, all of a sudden, he becomes the Hulk — a big green beast who is terrifyingly strong but very dumb. This change is difficult for Banner to grasp as he attempts to control this new aspect of himself.
The Pursuit by Jack Mc Gee
And there’s a gossip columnist named Jack McGee, played by Jack Colvin. He starts out squiring into Banner’s work but finds himself accusing the Hulk of all the mishaps that occur, including a lab accident that kills Banner and Marks. This makes Banner a wanted man.
Despite being on the run, Banner does his best to help others he comes across. But every time he saves someone, he turns into the Hulk again. This keeps bringing Jack McGee ever closer to the truth about the monster he is on the hunt for.
CONCLUSION
In spite of all the turbulence and problems that come with it, David Banner is out to cure himself of the Hulk and make up for the pain of losing his wife. He is about discovering himself, being accountable, trying to keep the changes that are profound within him in check. Despite his continual struggles, he is working relentlessly to redeem himself and overcome the challenges of his dual personalities.
